The week reports AOC declares she will support Manchins objectives?
I dont think it is, and I think progressives overplayed their hand. Manchin can survive without the infrastructure bill, which progressives dont seem to understand. The whole point of Republican support for that bill is what we see right here: By forcing progressives to vote against it, it fails, and Republicans AND Manchin can point to the progressives and blame them for failure to support this bipartisan legislation that would help restore Americas critical infrastructure blah blah blah. (And they wont be wrong). What AOC and her squad forgets is that its far easier to keep something from being passed than to pass something. So while the media has droned on about a win for progressives, all they really won was the ability to stop legislation which isnt really a win for progressives. Further, the longer this rolls, the harder it is to pass. Bidens honeymoon seems done and with it the power of his bully pulpit, and the clock here doesnt do progressives any favors. Nor does the momentum issue. Once a bill languishes for awhile, it gets harder and harder to pass. This isnt 1964, Biden didnt get 44 states and 486 electoral votes, 295 house seats, and 68 senate seats, and 61% of the popular vote. Thats a mandate, and thats what you need for Great society levels of change to domestic policy. A tied senate, 306 electoral votes, 51% of the popular vote, and 222 house seats? Thats a status quo election, or at most a one issue election, not a remake America election.
